ANOTHER SUNDAY @ THE KERRS

THANKS AGAIN MJ & DAVEY FOR HOSTING SUCH A FUN DAY! OH, KAREN TOO! SHE BOUGHT THE BUBBA BURGERS!

COUNTRY GIRL IN THE BIG CITY

Some of you might not know this but this punk rocker is a country girl at heart. For Mary Jean & Karen's birthday I got us all tickets, including David, to see the First Lady of Country Music Miss Loretta Lynn. I didn't really know or care if they liked her but I wanted to see her again and since MJ has made me sit through some pretty bad plays and shows (Dracula, the musical) I figured it was time for some pay back.

She played at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ. We had a lovely dinner with "Uncle" Ed, thank you Ed, and then it was off to the big show. I think the median age at the show was about 74 years old so I was smoking hot! Loretta came out in one of her classic big ass Loretta red dresses sang a few songs and then sat down? I guess after 45 years in show business she's getting tired. She can still sing though, that's for sure. Her daughters, Patsy & Peggy were there and sang a few song as well as her grand daughter Tayla who was shaking it up a little too much in front of Grandma. All in all it was a great show and we had a great time...all of us!

WEEKEND AT SUSAN'S

My friend Susan has a fabulous house upstate in Brainard, NY. So last weekend I went up with her for some fun. Erika from work and her family joined us as well. We went to a pig roast for the local fire department in hopes we might meet some cute single firemen... Well that plan back fired! We were the youngest ones there by about 20 years but they had food, beer and Bingo! Of course I didn't win anything but Erika's girls cleaned up! Even Susan won a $10 gift certificate to a local store.

I brought Ruby up too because MJ & David got stuck dog sitting while there kids are on vacation. Anyway, Ruby loves to go swimming but she won't go in a pool. Susan has some small ponds on her property which I tried to hide from Ruby but once she saw them she jumped right in took a little swim and then jumped out. Erika's girls found it very funny and loved having Ruby around for the weekend. Erika and Tommy have two girls, Allison and Isabelle and they just had a little boy named Gavin who is 5 months old.

Susan's house is currently under construction. She is having the kitchen and master bedroom redone so the place was a little messy. That didn't stop us from having a good time. We even had a fire and made smores in between beers. Thanks for a great weekend Suzie!

LA CUCINA

The finishing touches are in place so I guess my kitchen is open for business. No excuse now not to have MJ, David & Karen over for dinner. I hung up all of Nonna's copper, got my magnetic knife holder and I even hung up Nonna & Boppy's old coffee grinder. I don't drink coffee and I don't even know how to make coffee but I love the smell of it. MJ even got me a coffee maker for my birthday so not only will I have to have them over for dinner but I will have to make them coffee and dessert as well.

Now all I need are my book cases and some light fixtures and I'm done...for now.

THE SCOOTER

Today we lost not only a great ball player but a great man. Phil Rizzuto had a sense of humor like my grand father and that's why I loved him so. He reminded me of Boppy, but on a much smaller scale.

As most of you know I was raised a Yankee fan and still remain one to this day. Not because they are just my local team but because there is a strong family history with them.

I remember my grand mother telling the story of her first game at Yankee stadium. Her uncle, who worked as a delivery man delivering ice, became friendly with a young Columbia University baseball player. Once that young player made it to the big leagues he would give her uncle tickets to Yankee games. That players name was Lou Gehrig.

Nonna and Boppy use to argue over Yankee players and stats, who was a bum and who wasn't and who saw Babe Ruth hit a home run first at the stadium. Now my grand father was raised in Brooklyn so being a Yankee fan at that time was pretty dangerous but if he wanted to win Nonna's heart he had to give his heart to the Yankees first.
Later Boppy would go on to become a Police officer and was assigned to Yankee Stadium. He and his men would guard the players of the late 50's and early 60's in the days of Maris and Mantle.

In the 1970's Thomas and Lynn would take us kids to Yankee games all the time. I grew up in those upper tier reserve seats mainly because Thomas was too cheap to spring for better ones, haha! I was always scared I would take a tumble down those steep stairs. Everyone around us would be drinking beer and yelling and there was always this strange smell in the air. Until this day when I smell someone smoking pot on the streets I always think of the stadium in the 70's. Ahh...Don't ya love New York? Maybe that's why I ate so many REG-GIE bars back then?
I was lucky enough to meet Phil out side of Yankee stadium after a game once. I asked him to sign my yearbook "To Nonna" which he replied " I bet she makes a great cannoli".

So, the Yankees aren't just a team to me, they are a part of my heritage, they are my family.
They are just one great part of what my grand parents passed on too me.

HOLY COW...we'll miss you Scooter.

CRAZY BABA!

I almost forgot...David ,or more commonly known as Baba by his grand kids , had to buy a new bouncy house for his kids because the other one was "old". And yes, that is Violet at the top of the slide.

MY KIDS

Well, technically they aren't "my kids" but I love them anyway!

THE POLICE!

Yes, in case any of you were wondering, I am going to see The Police in concert tonight and Friday night at Madison Square Garden, NYC. For those of you that have known me for more than 20 years then you know that tonight I will be fulfilling a life long dream and can now die happily. Well, I would like to wait until November '08 to die since I am going on the Queen Victoria but that's for another day!
